Email often gets overlooked as an effective marketing tool for authors and artists, but considering that email marketing still gives you a fantastic return on invenstment (ROI), it is worth considering as a marketing tool. This simple email challenge will add a good amount of people to your email list…
Firstly, set aside some time every day for the next three days. An hour should do it.
On the first day, email ten people you actually know in real life. Family, friends, co-workers – anyone who you think would be interested in your book or artistic endeavours. (If they’re not on email, then feel free to use their messenger app of choice – Whatsapp, SnapChat, Fb Messenger etc). The message should be as follows:
Hi <insert name here>, I’ve a new website (or an existing website) which is focused on <insert details here>. Would you be interested in finding out more about it?
If they respond negatively, thank them for their time and move on. If they want to find out more, then make a note of their email address in a spreadsheet. Email them back to thank them and inform them you’ll be in touch. Why this last part is important is that they feel like you are being very personal with them. You haven’t just taken their email address, you have returned the handshake so to speak. People like that human connection.
Day two – Now, the next step is do widen your reach. Do it again with more people you might know. Same process.
Day three – Guess what? Yup, widen that circle. You probably know a lot of people so hopefully by the end of this process you should have gained a lot more email addresses. So now you just need to compose a good, engaging email and let them know about your creative endeavours.
(Of course, it would make sense to sign up to an Email CRM system like MailChimp etc to automate your workflow. Also, do be aware of the GDPR legislation in your country and make sure your actions do not fall foul of any legislation.)
So what makes a good, engaging email? Well, pop back next week and we’ll construct an email that will get your target audience engaged.
Every week I post content to help creatives market effectively, why not pop your email in the box below and get a notification every time new content arrives and never miss out!
